AVI is just a container format for media. Just like ZIP is for files and folders. The actual usability of the content relies on the fact that a specific decoder (the codec) is installed on the user's machine. Most likely, your AVI uses a codec which is not installed on the user's machine. Because of this, using AVI for web based media is a not a good idea. In order to achieve best compatibility, convert your video to flv.
